Installation planning · Dallas–Fort Worth

Adding desks changes more than the furniture layout. The business may need additional permanent network connections, suitable switch capacity and a different wireless plan. A small expansion is a good time to review the path from the new workspace back to the equipment location.

Count devices rather than chairs

List computers, phones, printers and any fixed equipment at the new positions. Record existing outlets and verify which ones are usable. Distinguish a spare wall port from an available active connection. The patch panel and switch need to be considered together.

Review the shared infrastructure

Check the current switch inventory, available ports and any power requirements for connected devices. Have the responsible IT provider assess configuration and the effect of the expansion. Do not assume a spare port means the whole network has sufficient capacity. Identify the cable routes and property approvals needed for new permanent outlets.

Install around business continuity

Agree a work window and identify any existing connections that may be interrupted. Label new outlets and update the network map before handover. Test from the new desk locations using representative tasks. Temporary cables across walkways should not become the permanent answer to a planned expansion.
